Istanbul is a magnificent city and it is huge. There are many things to see around the city and most of the time the best way to get somewhere is public transportation. In Istanbul, locals use a personalized card called the Istanbul Card for their daily trips. In nearly every public transportation vehicle, except the minibusses, the Istanbul Card is the only card to use. 


Since the city cards are personalized, the municipality just launched a new card for short-time visitors and our guests, the tourists, called Istanbul City Card. You don’t need to put your information on this card to personalize it, you can just purchase and start using it right away anonymously. What is Istanbul City Card?


Unlimited Istanbul Public Transportation Card is a specially designed public transportation card for the needs of tourists. It is valid in every public transportation vehicle including metro, trams, buses, metrobuses and ferries. There is only one exception, minibuses in Istanbul are still using cash, but don’t worry there is no place you can get by minibus instead of a bus! 


If you are in Istanbul as a tourist, then this card is perfect for you! Since public transportation is the cheapest and most of the time the fasted way to transport, you can use this card to get wherever you want to visit in Istanbul. It is a beautifully designed physical card delivered at your hotel by Istanbul Tourist Pass and after using it, you can keep it as a souvenir. 


 


The new Istanbul Public Transportation Card has 6 different designs each of them having a symbol of Istanbul. One symbolizes the famous cats of Istanbul, others have drawings of the Maiden Tower, the Galata Tower, a cup of Turkish tea, a ferry and the famous red tram of Istiklal Street on them. Cards are delivered randomly so you may have only one of them for your visit; so another reason to come again to collect them all.

How many times can I use my Istanbul Public Transportation Card?


Istanbul Public Transportation Card is a prepaid public transportation card that gives you unlimited access to public transportation for the number of days you stay. You can buy this card with your Istanbul Travel Pass and there are 1-3- 5-7-15 day options for you to choose from.


You will get unlimited access to public transport for the days you choose and after that, you can keep the physical card as a souvenir since it is designed for you to remember the amazing times you had in Istanbul.


For example, if you joined one of our Hagia Sophia guided tours and you want to go on another amazing guided tour in Dolmabahce Palace Museum T1 tram from the historical peninsula to Kabatas. Then you can get on a bus and go to Besiktas and you may take a ferry then to enjoy the beautiful Bosphorus. In all these transits, you will not have to pay extras or separate fees for all this trip since you will have unlimited access with your Unlimited Istanbul Transportation Card.

How to get Istanbul City Card?


Istanbul Tourist Pass® is one of the small number of official service providers of the Istanbul City Card. You can buy this card on our website. You can add this card to your Istanbul Tourist Pass® at the checkout or you can buy it separately. We recommend you buy it with the Istanbul Tourist Pass, so you don’t need to worry about extra fees and long lines of tickets while you are enjoying the city. 


When you purchase your Istanbul City Card, our couriers deliver your card in a beautifully designed envelope to your hotel just before you check-in. So you don’t need to think about where to get there, you will take your Istanbul City Card right away when you get to your hotel, and you can start using it immediately by following these steps:


Activation:


Tap your card at the designated kiosk machines known as "Biletmatik" to activate it.


Alternatively, activate your card by swiftly scanning it at a turnstile or on a bus for 5-7 seconds.


Once activated, your card is ready for immediate use, do not scan again.

Your card is for personal use only and is valid for one person.


 


Please note that attempting to use the same card at the same stop within a short time frame will result in the card being blocked for 30 minutes. Avoid multiple scans to ensure seamless usage.
